FEAR IN THE WATER: PFAS STORIES

Cape Fear River Watch presents two short films focused on our community and the ongoing challenge with PFAS in our wells and drinking water.

The films were created in partnership with Kind of Cool Productions and Otter & Oyster Media

Honey Bird Organic Farms (14 minutes)

Honeybird Farms is an organic farm in Castle Hayne NC. When Ty Jacobos discovered his well water was contaminated with PFAS chemicals he shut down his farm and contacted Cape Fear River Watch to find a solution to save his farm and support the community by providing healthy organic produce. The story follows Ty as he attempts to rebuild his farm despite no support from Chemours due to the terms of the Consent Order.  This is a story of injustice, community and hope.

    Rock Hill Community (18 minutes)

In 2022, residents in the unincorporated community of Rock Hill discovered their wells contaminated with PFAS chemicals, found to cause several health issues in humans.

Janice Gains, head of the Rock Hill community organization, was determined to find a solution for this fixed-income community as they are suffering with contaminated drinking water, dozens of cancers diagnosed and the inability to afford a connection to the public water lines. This is a story of injustice, and the power communities have when they stand together.
